The left side has the whole millions and the top has the 100-thousands. I have a few filled in, but if you have others, add them here and I will try to update my chart periodically. Other serial numbers will have a different letter or symbol prefix. Look under the dial and you will see M3214xxx and on smaller plates M14xxx, with the “M” standing in for 32. It can help matching up loose plates to the proper movement. I have started to compile a chart of Elgin’s codes. (This practice is discussed here - Letters on balance cocks ? ) Elgin used this method inconsistently for movements with serial numbers from 1 to 10 million, but also some higher numbers (I have seen codes in the 15-millions). Staffs 22BB 4, 22BB 7E, and 14C are the exceptions the cost range is 25.00 to 35.00. We will then look up the serial number and send you the right balance staff. But Elgin and Illinois, at least for a while, would use coded symbols on the smaller plates and bridges to indicate the full serial number. Just click order and in either the order instuction box, or the order comments box enter the serial number found stamped on the watch movement. The London and Port Stanley Railway (L&PS or L&PSR) was a Canadian railway located in. Waltham just put a partial number on parts like pallet bridges and balance cocks. Smaller parts of watch movements usually do not have room for the full serial number.
